Prepping For Winter

I know what you're all thinking, "didn't you say you'd write once a week?" and also "If you're in the northern hemisphere you are LATE to prep for winter"

While both of these are true, that doesn't stop me from writing this right now, a mere hour before I start work properly for the day.

So I'm currently preparing for my yearly pilgrimage to the northern mountains of Cumbria, it's a place I love dearly, and despite having to spend it with people who probably couldn't care less if I was there or about how I am, I always tend to enjoy it. Something about the cold crisp days surrounded by green and grey. I think that's why I loved my week over in the states when visiting Portland for a friends wedding. The surrounding area feels very similar.

This year a few things are needed to keep me going without falling apart at the seems, a new coat, and a way of not having my body stop working due to me become ever increasingly disabled. The coat should be the easy part, alas, it is not. Coat manufacturers/sellers do not make it easy to buy them online and I haven't the time in my current schedule to buy in an actual store. this may mean another year with the current winter coat, and another year of despising the fluffy mane that surrounds the hood. I COULD try and buy a coat while I am up in the mountains I suppose...

The method of not destroying my body is the tricky one, I have an ever increasing set of needs and an ever decreasing amount of time, energy, and brain power to solve these issues. A few of these can be fixed quite easily, longer gloves/wrist warmers to protect myself from the cold reaching my hands as I fight against the poor circulation that afflicts them. Or new shoes that provide the support my ankles need to not collapse in on themselves (but aren't too supportive that I cold dislocate them without knowing)

Others provide more of a challenge. Knee supports are useful but cumbersome, especially when the aforementioned hand issues come in to play. They will provide some level of protection however so will not be entirely dismissed while I await a good choice of walking stick. (also gently considering a chair but that has other issues)

Dealing with the rest of my joints is a lesser issue but still one to be aware of, my hips follow my knees and will also willingly give out at a moments notice, and while less likely, my shoulders and elbows do have their own issues to get ahold of.

All in all, I have just under 2 weeks to prepare for this trip, and all I've done is buy a book that may or may not arrive in time.
